MELAKA, Oct 5 2026 — Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has expressed condolences on the death of Inspector Muhammad Al Azim bin Md Azmi, a police officer who died while receiving treatment for cancer.
In a statement posted today, Saifuddin said he had been informed that the officer, who served in the D7 branch of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Melaka police contingent headquarters, died during treatment. He described the loss as a significant one for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and noted the inspector’s service to religion, race and country.
A memorial graphic released with the statement identified the late officer as Insp G/26491 Muhammad Al Azim bin Md Azmi and listed his last posting as senior police officer at the D7 branch, JSJ IPK Melaka. The graphic carried the minister’s name and title.
PDRM had previously reported, in December 2024, that ex Deputy Inspector-General of Police DIG Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay visited Inspector Muhammad Al Azim Md Azmi, then 31, at University Malaya Medical Centre. At that time he was attached to the PDRM Sports Council athlete secretariat and was receiving intensive treatment after a cancer diagnosis.
Saifuddin extended condolences to the family and offered prayers for the deceased. No funeral arrangements have been announced in the statement.
