PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 2026 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has appointed Dato’ Sri Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Majid as Deputy Inspector-General of Police, with effect from Sept 9, 2026.
The appointment was made under Clauses 4 and 5 of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution, on the advice of the Prime Minister and upon the recommendation of the Police Force Commission, the Home Ministry said in a statement today.
Abdul Aziz, 59, was born on Feb 19, 1967 in Penaga, Penang. He holds a Master of Social Science in Police Studies from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and joined the Royal Malaysia Police on July 1, 1995.
He has served across several core departments, including Management, Special Branch, Criminal Investigation, Narcotics Criminal Investigation, Commercial Crime Investigation, Logistics and Technology, and Crime Prevention and Community Safety.
His senior postings include Director of Management, Deputy Director of Special Branch, Deputy Director of Narcotics, Deputy Chief Police Officer of Penang, Principal Assistant Director of Policy and Resource Management, and Principal Assistant Director of the Integrated Special Investigation Team.
To strengthen his professional credentials, he has attended international programmes including the 8th International Symposium of Best Police Practice in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the Intelligence Management Development Programme in Australia.
The ministry said his experience and expertise in policing give him the competence and leadership required for the deputy IGP post.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who also chairs the Police Force Commission, congratulated Abdul Aziz on the appointment.
The statement did not name who would succeed him as Director of Management at Bukit Aman. Special Branch director Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus had been acting deputy IGP since July after Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay reached mandatory retirement age.
