PUTRAJAYA, Aug 29 2026 — Visitors attending the 2026 National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday are advised to wear N95 masks to protect themselves from the current haze.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who also chairs the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2026 celebrations main committee, said the advice follows recommendations by the Health Ministry (MOH), particularly for high-risk individuals.
He said organisers would also provide N95 masks to more than 10,000 participants as a precaution.
“If they (participants) feel they need to wear a mask, they can do so. We are not making it compulsory; it is up to the individual.
“So, we advise parents bringing young children, as well as those with asthma, to bring masks, particularly N95 masks,” he told a press conference after watching the full dress rehearsal here today.
Fahmi said MOH medical teams have been stationed at strategic locations to provide prompt assistance.
“We have locations where MOH doctors are stationed to handle emergencies. So far, I have been informed that all the medical bases are operating smoothly and no issues have been reported,” he said.
On the full dress rehearsal, he said it proceeded smoothly and according to plan.
A total of 823 media practitioners will cover the celebrations this year, up from about 600 last year.
“This is an encouraging and commendable increase, and I believe there will be no issues with internet access this year, making it easier for our media colleagues to cover the celebrations,” he said.
Fahmi added that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which manages the Network Monitoring Centre together with telecommunications companies, has installed additional communications equipment at 102 National Day celebration venues to ensure smooth coverage.
On security, he said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has so far not reported any incidents requiring particular attention.
“Public order is being maintained and there are no issues at the moment,” he said.
