KUALA LUMPUR, August 3, 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has praised the Malaysian contingent for delivering the country’s strongest Commonwealth Games performance in 16 years at Glasgow 2026.
In a post on X, Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister and UMNO president, extended his congratulations after Team Malaysia returned with eight gold, three silver and five bronze medals.
“Alhamdulillah, Sukan Komanwel Glasgow 2026 telah melabuhkan tirainya dengan satu pencapaian yang cukup membanggakan buat negara,” he wrote. With only 59 athletes — including 22 para-athletes — competing in eight sports, the contingent surpassed its medal target and recorded Malaysia’s best result since the 2010 New Delhi Games.
Zahid paid tribute to every athlete, coach, official and support staff, stressing that those who returned without medals still made the nation proud through their sacrifice and fighting spirit.
“Sama ada pulang dengan pingat mahupun tidak, setiap pengorbanan dan semangat juang yang dipamerkan tetap menjadi kebanggaan seluruh rakyat Malaysia,” he said.
He also thanked all parties involved in the preparation, saying the success in Glasgow proved that thorough planning, teamwork and strong determination allow Malaysia to stand tall on the international stage.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope that the Glasgow results would inspire even greater achievements in future competitions.

Malaysia finished 10th overall on the medal table at the Games, which concluded on 2 August.
