BUDAPEST, July 27, 2026 – Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris delivered a commanding performance to win the Hungarian Grand Prix, securing McLaren’s first victory of the season and marking his first-ever repeat triumph at the same circuit.
The Briton crossed the line 15.080 seconds clear of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull after 70 laps at the Hungaroring, with Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli completing the podium in third. The result ends an eight-month drought for Norris, whose previous win came at the 2025 São Paulo Grand Prix, and confirms his second consecutive success at the Budapest track following his 2025 victory.
Norris started from pole but lost the lead to teammate Oscar Piastri at Turn 2 on the opening lap. The Australian controlled the early stages until a collision with lapped traffic and a subsequent gearbox failure forced him to retire with 15 laps remaining. That handed Norris a clear path to victory after a well-timed strategy call that allowed him to undercut his teammate.
“My pace today was probably some of the best I’ve ever had,” Norris said. “The car was beautiful to drive, and I felt very confident. Nice to finally be able to do it all for you.”
Verstappen produced a resilient drive to finish second despite limited pace, while championship leader Antonelli charged from seventh on the grid to third, extending his points advantage. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth respectively after Hamilton received a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
