KUALA LUMPUR, June 13, 2026 — Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin will once again take on the role of Leader of the Opposition (Ketua Pembangkang), following a decision by PAS and Gerakan Reset to reinstate him for leadership continuity and bloc stability.
PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced the move, stating that both parties agreed to the reinstatement to maintain the existing opposition structure under Perikatan Nasional (PN) and ensure ongoing cooperation among component parties.
Hamzah, the Larut MP, previously served as the 17th Leader of the Opposition from December 2022 until his resignation in April 2026. He was expelled from Bersatu in February 2026 amid internal party conflicts and has since operated as an independent while advancing his “Reset” political initiative.
The announcement comes amid efforts to unify opposition forces. Hadi’s statement underscores PAS’s support for Hamzah’s return, aiming to strengthen the opposition bloc ahead of future political developments. This development is expected to consolidate support within PN components, particularly after months of uncertainty following Hamzah’s departure from Bersatu.
This reinstatement reflects ongoing realignments in Malaysia’s opposition landscape as parties prepare for potential early elections or further coalition adjustments.
