KUALA LUMPUR, 5 June 2026 – The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has postponed its National Conference from 12 July to 16 August 2026 following the dissolution of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state assemblies, which triggered state elections to be held within 60 days from 1 June 2026.
The decision was made during the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) monthly meeting held last night (4 June 2026), according to a media statement issued by DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook.
In the statement, the CEC outlined several key positions:
1. Defending Incumbent Seats and Targeting Additional Seats
DAP will defend all its incumbent seats in both Johor and Negeri Sembilan. The party will also contest several additional seats in Johor, subject to final negotiations with other Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties, expected to conclude by the end of this week.
2. Candidate Selection Committee
A special Candidate Selection Committee has been formed to determine DAP’s candidates for the upcoming state elections. The committee comprises:
- Loke Siew Fook (Secretary-General)
- Gobind Singh Deo (National Chairman)
- Nga Kor Ming (National Deputy Chairman)
- Teo Nie Ching (DAP Women’s Chief)
- Chong Chieng Jen (DAP Parliamentary Leader)
3. Strong Support for Attorney General Separation Bill
The CEC expressed full support for the tabling of the Separation of Attorney General and Public Prosecutor Bill, which is scheduled to be presented in the Dewan Rakyat starting 22 June following finalisation by the Special Select Committee.
All 40 DAP Members of Parliament are committed to voting in favour of the constitutional amendment, described as a historic institutional reform. The party urged all other MPs to ensure the bill’s successful passage.
The statement reaffirmed DAP’s commitment to advancing institutional reform agendas within the government and pledged that the party will campaign vigorously in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections to secure a Pakatan Harapan victory in both states.
“ DAP remains fully committed to championing the institutional reform agenda in government and will campaign earnestly in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections for Pakatan Harapan’s victory in both states,” the statement concluded.
The upcoming state polls in Johor and Negeri Sembilan are expected to be closely watched as a key political barometer following the federal government’s ongoing reform initiatives.
