KPDN enforcement officers will be stationed at strategic locations such as public markets, farmers’ markets, tamu markets, and shopping centres selling festive goods. The ministry will also conduct educational and advisory programmes to encourage compliance.
The scheme is enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723). Penalties for violations include:
- Selling controlled goods above the maximum price: Individuals face fines up to RM100,000 or up to three years’ imprisonment (or both), or compound up to RM50,000. Companies face fines up to RM500,000 or compound up to RM250,000.
- Failure to display pink price tags for controlled goods: Individuals face fines up to RM10,000 or compound up to RM5,000; companies up to RM20,000 or compound up to RM10,000.
The ministry has urged all traders to comply with the maximum prices and use the required pink labels. Consumers are advised to check the official maximum prices on the KPDN website.
KPDN will continue to work closely with KPKM and industry players to ensure sufficient supply throughout the period. This initiative is part of broader efforts under the Payung RAHMAH programme to ease the cost of living.
The announcement was made by Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, in Kundasang, Sabah today.
