WASHINGTON D.C. May 18, 2026 – President Donald Trump highlighted his administration’s collaboration with billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban during a recent event, emphasizing how the partnership is delivering significant savings on prescription medications through the government platform TrumpRx.gov.
In remarks captured in a White House Rapid Response video, Trump stated: “It says we love people, we love our country. He’s got a good company, and he’s going to do a lot of business with us… he said this is something that really works.” The comments underscore a bipartisan effort focused on drug affordability, despite Cuban’s past political differences with Trump.
TrumpRx.gov, launched in early 2026 following a 2025 executive order on most-favored-nation pricing, allows consumers to access discounted medications by aligning U.S. prices more closely with lower international benchmarks and bypassing traditional pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). The platform features steep reductions on high-cost drugs, including GLP-1 treatments like Ozempic and Wegovy.
Examples of savings on the site include:
- Wegovy® pills dropping from $1,349 to as low as $149 per month.
- Ozempic® from around $1,028 to $199–$349 depending on dosage and eligibility.
- Similar discounts on Zepbound and other medications.
Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs has partnered with TrumpRx by sharing pricing data and API access, enhancing transparency. Cuban has publicly defended the initiative, noting it is “saving patients money on IVF and a few other drugs. A lot of money.” He previously called it “incredible” and “stupendous,” while giving the platform a “B” grade and urging critics to “give them a chance.”
The collaboration builds on Cost Plus Drugs’ model of selling generics and select brands at cost plus a modest markup. Administration officials report hundreds of millions in patient savings since launch, with plans to expand to hundreds more generics.
Critics have questioned aspects of the program’s implementation and data, but supporters view the Trump-Cuban partnership as a pragmatic step toward greater competition and lower costs in the pharmaceutical sector. Trump has positioned the effort as a key win for American families struggling with high drug prices.
