DOHA, QATAR May 15, 2026 – The State of Qatar has issued a firm condemnation of the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, along with accompanying settlers, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.
In an official statement released today, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as a “blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law,” as well as an “unacceptable provocation” to the sentiments of millions of Muslims worldwide.
The ministry highlighted that the raid included restrictions on Muslim worshippers’ access to the mosque and warned that such actions represent a dangerous attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
“Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims,” the statement emphasized, adding that all unilateral measures aimed at changing the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its holy sites are “null and void” under international law.
Qatar further cautioned that continued violations and provocations at the holy sites risk fueling further violence and instability in the region, potentially undermining efforts to restore calm.
The ministry called on the international community to take urgent action to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its ongoing violations against the Palestinian people and their holy sites, and to comply with relevant international resolutions.
Qatar reiterated its firm support for the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people, stressing the need to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This latest condemnation comes amid repeated tensions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, one of Islam’s holiest sites, which has frequently been a flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ben-Gvir, a polarizing figure in Israeli politics, has made multiple visits to the site in recent months, actions widely criticized by Arab nations and Palestinian authorities.
No immediate response from Israeli officials was available at the time of reporting.
