SEREMBAN, May 6, 2026 — Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has urged the people of the state to get ready for a potential state election, warning that certain quarters remain dissatisfied with the current political arrangement.
Speaking at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership grand ceramah in Paroi last night (May 6), Aminuddin — who is also the state PH chairman — said: “Saya mahu rakyat Negeri Sembilan, penduduk negeri ini, bersiap sedia menghadapi pilihan raya. Mereka tak puas hati lagi. Hari ini kenyataan demi kenyataan.” (I want the people of Negeri Sembilan, the residents of this state, to prepare to face the election. They are still not satisfied. Today, statement after statement.)
He was widely understood to be referring to UMNO, following months of political friction.
The remarks come barely a month after a major political crisis in late April when all 14 UMNO/Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblymen withdrew their support for Aminuddin’s leadership. The move stemmed from disagreements over his handling of a dispute involving the state’s traditional chieftains (Undangs) and the royal institution.
The withdrawal left the PH-led government in a minority position in the 36-seat State Legislative Assembly (PH holds 17 seats, BN 14, and Perikatan Nasional 5). However, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz, allowed the administration to continue.
Although national UMNO leadership later indicated that the 14 assemblymen would remain within the unity government framework, ongoing public statements have kept tensions alive.
Aminuddin described the recent turmoil as an “unexpected lesson” for all parties and called on PH component parties — PKR, DAP and AMANAH — to strengthen their machinery and work as a united team in preparation for any eventuality.
No date has been set for the next Negeri Sembilan state election, which is not due until late 2028.
The full video of Aminuddin’s speech has gone viral on social media, drawing mixed reactions from netizens who see it as a sign that snap polls could be called sooner than expected.
