KUALA LUMPUR, April 28, 2026 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) has expressed deep regret and strongly condemned the recent withdrawal of support by 14 UMNO-Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan, describing the move as a clear act of betrayal that disregards the spirit of the Unity Government.
In an official media statement issued yesterday, PH Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the coalition firmly rejects the “treacherous step” taken by the UMNO BN Negeri Sembilan assemblymen to attempt to topple the state administration through what he called a “tebuk atap” (roof-breaking) manoeuvre.
“The action by the 14 ADUN UMNO Barisan Nasional Negeri Sembilan clearly does not reflect the spirit of the Unity Government,” the statement read.
Fahmi stressed that the reasons given by the assemblymen had “absolutely no connection” to the performance of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
He criticised the timing of the move, noting that it was carried out without regard for the people’s welfare, especially amid global economic challenges and while the Unity Government continues to manage the economy and ease the burden on citizens.
“Pakatan Harapan reaffirms its commitment that the administration of the Negeri Sembilan state government under the leadership of the Menteri Besar will continue as normal,” the statement said, referring to an earlier assurance given by PH Chairman to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
PH also pledged to maintain full cooperation with the current state leadership for the sake of economic stability and the welfare of the rakyat, while continuing to uphold the role and functions of the Malay Rulers’ institutions.
The 14 UMNO-BN assemblymen, led by Negeri Sembilan UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, announced their unanimous decision to withdraw support for the Menteri Besar on Monday, April 27.
Fahmi Fadzil, who is also Malaysia’s Communications Minister, signed off the statement on behalf of Pakatan Harapan.
This latest development has heightened political tension in Negeri Sembilan and is seen as a test for the unity government formula at the state level.
