KUALA LUMPUR, April 25, 2026 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has consented to the appointment of Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC/SPRM).
The appointment, which takes effect on May 13, 2026, follows a proposal submitted by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It comes as Tan Sri Azam Baki’s tenure as MACC chief ends on May 12.
Anwar described Abdul Halim as a highly suitable candidate to lead the anti-graft agency, highlighting his extensive judicial experience and independence from major business interests or political parties.
“I believe he is well-suited to head the MACC due to his judicial background and lack of links to business or politics,” Anwar said while speaking to the media today.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar confirmed the appointment in an official statement, noting that Abdul Halim will serve a two-year term under subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman, 69, brings over four decades of experience in the legal and judicial service. Born on March 10, 1957, in Malacca, he holds an LLB from Universiti Malaya (1982) and an LLM from the University of Hull, UK (1996). He served as a High Court judge from 2007 until his retirement in 2023, presiding over numerous high-profile cases.
The move is expected to strengthen public confidence in the MACC amid ongoing national efforts to combat corruption more effectively.
