PUTRAJAYA, April 24, 2026 – The Malaysian government is committing approximately RM200 million per day – or RM2,300 every second – to fuel subsidies as a protective measure for citizens amid the ongoing global energy crisis and volatile international oil prices.
In an official statement posted on X today, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) described the subsidies, including the BUDI 95 petrol and BUDI Diesel programmes, as a crucial “shield” that prevents Malaysians from bearing the full burden of rising global fuel costs.
“While the world is facing a global energy crisis, fuel subsidies have become an important shield to protect the people, including BUDI 95 and BUDI Diesel,” the ministry said.
The announcement is accompanied by an official infographic from the MOF that visually emphasises the government’s commitment, showing stacks of fuel barrels, storage tanks and workers at an industrial site, with bold headlines declaring: “Subsidi Bahan Api Kini Berfungsi Sebagai Perisai Untuk Lindungi Rakyat” (Fuel Subsidies Now Function as a Shield to Protect the People) and “Kerajaan Tanggung Subsidi RM200 Juta Sehari” (Government Bears RM200 Million Daily Subsidy).
The subsidies form part of the government’s targeted assistance under the MADANI economic agenda, which aims to deliver relief directly to the rakyat while maintaining fiscal prudence.
This daily expenditure underscores the scale of the government’s ongoing intervention in the fuel market to keep prices stable for eligible consumers, even as global crude oil prices continue to fluctuate due to international supply and geopolitical factors.
The statement reinforces the administration’s pledge to prioritise citizen welfare through the MADANI framework (#MalaysiaMADANI #RancakkanMADANI #YakinMADANI #MADANIBekerja).
