KOTA BHARU, April 18, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Kota Bharu, Kelantan today to continue the government’s efforts in addressing the rakyat’s needs and ensuring that planned development agendas are implemented in an orderly and effective manner.
Upon landing, the Prime Minister immediately officiated the opening of the new terminal at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP), describing it as a major milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s air transportation infrastructure. The project elevates Kota Bharu as the primary gateway to the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, equipped with modern and more efficient facilities.
In his speech at the ceremony, Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the development goes beyond improving service standards. “This is a catalyst for local economic growth, covering tourism, trade and investment sectors that will deliver widespread benefits to the people,” he said.
The new terminal is significantly larger, more comfortable and passenger-friendly. Its capacity has been expanded from 1.5 million to 4 million passengers annually, while also opening new international routes to broaden market access.
The Prime Minister highlighted the achievement as clear proof of the MADANI government’s commitment to accelerating economic progress in Kelantan and the entire East Coast region.
He called on all federal and state government machinery to continue working in synergy to explore opportunities in strategic sectors, towards building a more inclusive and prosperous Malaysia.
The event was attended by local leaders and members of the public, with the Prime Minister interacting with residents and traditional cultural performers during the visit.
