PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA March 18, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a series of people-centric initiatives by the MADANI Government to support Malaysians during the final stretch of Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, amid global economic uncertainties.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister emphasised the government’s firm commitment to protecting the welfare of the rakyat.
“Alhamdulillah, the MADANI Government has taken a firm stand to safeguard the people’s well-being throughout Ramadan and ahead of Syawal,” he said.
The comprehensive package includes measures already rolled out since the start of Ramadan, as well as two major new announcements:
New Initiatives
– 50% Toll Discount for Balik Kampung**: Motorists will enjoy a 50% discount on toll charges on 18 and 19 March 2026 (from 12:01 am on Wednesday, 18 March until 11:59 pm on Thursday, 19 March). The move is aimed at reducing travel costs for families returning to their hometowns.
Fast-Track Bankruptcy Discharge : Approximately 4,000 individuals, including single mothers and fathers, will be granted a “second chance” through a fast-track bankruptcy release programme in the spirit of Aidilfitri. This initiative reflects the MADANI Government’s emphasis on compassion (ihsan) and giving hope to those in financial distress.
Ongoing Relief Measures
Other key initiatives already in place include:
– Additional public holiday for Aidilfitri
– Skim Harga Maksimum Musim Perayaan (Maximum Price Scheme) from 14 to 28 March 2026
– Early disbursement of STR Phase 2 payments worth RM1.3 billion to 5.2 million recipients
– Special financial aid for civil servants, pensioners, veterans, imams, bilal, tok siak, noja, marbut, and KAFA/takmir teachers
– RM400 FLYsiswa flight ticket subsidy
– Nearly 1,900 Jualan Rahmah MADANI sales programmes nationwide
– Ban on the sale of subsidised cooking oil packets to foreigners
Accompanying the announcement were two official graphics: one highlighting the toll discount under the “Balik Kampung!” campaign, and another titled “Peluang Kedua” (Second Chance) illustrating the bankruptcy relief programme.
Call for Financial Discipline
While extending these relief measures, Prime Minister Anwar urged Malaysians to practise prudent spending throughout Syawal and to manage their finances responsibly in preparation for future economic challenges.
“On behalf of the entire MADANI Government machinery, I wish everyone Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Maaf zahir dan batin,” he added.
The announcements have been welcomed by many as timely support for the rakyat, especially those planning to travel home for the festive season.
