KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 25, 2025 – After four years leading the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS), CP Dato’ Sri Azri Ahmad has retired, leaving behind a towering legacy of ethical governance and strategic leadership within the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). His tenure solidified JIPS as a cornerstone of integrity, earning him recognition as a pivotal figure in fostering trust and accountability in the force.

Under Dato’ Sri Azri’s stewardship, PDRM implemented the Anti-Corruption Plan and introduced sweeping compliance reforms, ensuring the force remained a trusted guardian of public safety. Though his vision for further reforms remains, the PDRM community bids farewell as he enters mandatory retirement after 37 years of service to faith, nation, and country.
A ceremonial Retirement Parade honoring Dato’ Sri Azri was held yesterday at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre’s Parade Ground, attended by PDRM’s top leadership and personnel. Accompanied by his wife, Datin Sri Norliah Hj. Othman, JIPS PERKEP Chairperson, he was warmly received by Inspector-General of Police Dato’ Sri Hj. Mohd Khalid Hj. Ismail and Deputy Inspector-General Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

Reflecting on his illustrious career, Dato’ Sri Azri, a Kuala Lumpur native, joined PDRM as an ASP Cadet on June 5, 1988. A mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Tulsa, USA, he further honed his expertise at Harvard Business School and the International Law Enforcement Academy in Bangkok. His career highlights include serving as Assistant Secretary of the Defence Industry Division at the Ministry of Defence, spearheading the PDRM Vehicle Management Privatisation Programme, drafting the PDRM Go Green Agenda, and coordinating security during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his address, IGP Dato’ Sri Hj. Mohd Khalid described Dato’ Sri Azri’s retirement as a significant loss, praising him as a model of integrity and long-term strategic leadership. “His sacrifices and contributions will inspire PDRM’s strength and sustainability, leaving an enduring legacy,” he said.
During the hour-long ceremony, Dato’ Sri Azri was honored as the “guest conductor” of the PDRM Central Band, led by DSP Mesmoro Edward, performing “My Way.” Earlier, at Dewan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hashim, a rank-pinning ceremony saw CP Dato’ Rusdi Mohd Isa appointed Director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) and CP Datuk Hamzah Hj. Ahmad as JIPS Director. CP Tuan Gilberd Philip Layang was also promoted to Commissioner of Police, taking the helm of the Logistics and Technology Department.
The event included the official handover of JSJK duties from acting director CP Dato’ Sri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali to Dato’ Rusdi, and JIPS duties from Dato’ Sri Azri to Datuk Hamzah, witnessed by the IGP. The ceremonial exchange of the command baton symbolized the transition. Additionally, PERKEP JSJK and JIPS chairpersons transitioned, with Datin Zuraini Abd Razak and Datin Hjh. Sulastri Fethihana Swanto assuming the roles, respectively, observed by PERKEP Malaysia Chairperson Datin Sri Hjh. Munirah Che Rose.
Three senior officers also received promotions: DCP Redzuan Abdul Hamid as Deputy Director (Technical/Operations) of Logistics, DCP Mohd Rozi Jidin as Deputy Director (Traffic Control/Summons Management) of Traffic Investigation and Enforcement, and SAC Nordin Md Nor as Assistant Director (Telecommunications and Information Systems) of Logistics.
Present were Management Director and Organizing Committee Chairperson CP Dato’ Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, PDRM directors, senior officers, PERKEP members, and media representatives.
