DOHA, QATAR March 2, 2026 – Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, received a telephone call on Sunday from the Netherlands’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tom Berendsen, to discuss the ongoing military escalation in the region.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, the leaders addressed the serious repercussions of the recent developments on regional and international security and stability, as well as the need to resolve disputes through peaceful means.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman strongly condemned the targeting of Qatari territory with Iranian ballistic missiles, describing it as “a flagrant violation of its national sovereignty” that contradicts the principles of good neighbourliness and “cannot be accepted under any justification or pretext.”
He emphasised that Qatar has consistently sought to distance itself from regional conflicts and has actively facilitated dialogue between Iran and the international community. However, he warned that the renewed attacks do not reflect good faith and threaten the foundations of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister called for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions, a return to the negotiating table, and the prioritisation of reason and wisdom to contain the crisis and preserve regional security.
In response, Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen conveyed the Netherlands’ firm condemnation of the Iranian missile attack, labelling it a clear violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, its airspace, international law, and the Charter of the United Nations.
The statement was accompanied by official portraits of both leaders.
This diplomatic exchange highlights growing international concern over the escalating tensions in the Gulf following Iran’s recent retaliatory strikes.
