KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA March 2, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed Malaysia’s deepest condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran over the loss of its highest leadership and innocent civilians in the recent US-Israeli military strikes, while strongly condemning the attacks as a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Anwar described the assault as “heinous” and a direct breach of national sovereignty and global norms.
“Malaysia records its condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran for the loss of lives of the country’s highest leadership and innocent people who were not at fault, due to the heinous attack by the alliance of the Israeli regime and the United States,” the Prime Minister said.
“Malaysia strongly condemns the attack by the Zionist Israeli regime and the United States on Iran. This action is an open violation of national sovereignty and the principles of world order,” he added.
The statement comes amid reports that joint US-Israeli strikes beginning February 28 killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top officials, triggering Iranian retaliation and raising fears of wider regional conflict.
Anwar urged an immediate unconditional ceasefire and a return to the negotiating table.
“Malaysia calls for an unconditional ceasefire to be implemented immediately and for all parties to return to the negotiating table. The principle of national sovereignty and international order must be respected and defended,” he emphasised.
He stressed that the MADANI Government’s top priority is the safety and welfare of Malaysian citizens in Iran and other affected West Asian countries. Wisma Putra and Malaysian embassies are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance and travel advisories as needed.
Anwar also reaffirmed Malaysia’s unwavering humanitarian commitment to the people of Palestine in Gaza through the ongoing Sumud Darat aid mission.
“Malaysia remains consistent in opposing aggression and supporting peace efforts for regional stability,” he said.
The Prime Minister earlier today tabled an emergency motion in the Dewan Rakyat condemning the “barbaric” attacks, repeating Malaysia’s call for restraint and diplomacy.
Malaysia has long maintained a firm pro-Palestine stance and friendly ties with Iran, consistently criticising Israeli actions in the region.
