KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 27, 2026 — Malaysia’s Royal Police (PDRM) has confirmed it is investigating allegations of a plot to overthrow the government and sabotage national stability, involving a locally influential individual with links to an international media agency.
In an official media statement issued this morning by Inspector-General of Police Dato’ Sri Hj. Mohd Khalid bin Hj. Ismail, PDRM said a police report was received on 26 February 2026. The case is being probed by the Elite Crime Investigation Unit under the Prosecution/Law Division (D5) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 124B of the Penal Code , which states that anyone who, directly or indirectly, carries out activities that undermine parliamentary democracy can, upon conviction, be sentenced to imprisonment for a term which may be extended up to 20 years.
“Investigations are still ongoing and the public is advised not to make any speculations related to the case while PDRM completes its investigation to respect the principles of criminal justice in this country,” the IGP said.
The Attorney General’s Chambers (Jabatan Peguam Negara) also issued a statement today, referring directly to the police announcement and describing the matter as extremely serious.
“Any action or planning that incites public unrest, threatens political stability and endangers national security strikes at the very foundation of the parliamentary democratic system and the principles of the rule of law,” the Chambers said.
It stressed that the investigation must be carried out thoroughly, professionally and free from any interference, and that any parties found involved — regardless of their status or background — will be held fully accountable under the law.
The Attorney General’s Chambers pledged full cooperation with PDRM to ensure the prosecution process is conducted fairly in accordance with the Federal Constitution and the principles of the rule of law. Any decision on whether to prosecute will be made objectively based on facts, evidence and legal considerations.
The dual statements from the nation’s top police and legal authorities underscore the gravity with which Malaysian authorities are treating the reported conspiracy.
