KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA January 10, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced a RM5 million allocation from the federal government to support development and improvement efforts at Zoo Negara Malaysia.
The announcement was made during Anwar’s visit to the zoo on Saturday morning, where he also viewed the new pair of giant pandas, Chen Xing (male) and Xiao Yue (female), which arrived from China on 18 November 2025.

In a post on his official X account, Anwar stated that Zoo Negara is not merely a conservation institution that educates the public, but also part of the nation’s heritage.
“This allocation is a continuation of the commitment announced last year, and it reflects the ongoing dedication of the MADANI Government to ensure the welfare of animals, public facilities, and visitor experience are continually enhanced,” he said.
He also emphasised the need for cooperation from all parties — the government, zoo management, private sector, and the public — to preserve the nation’s natural treasures and wildlife for a sustainable future.
The giant panda pair, which arrived in Malaysia as part of a 10-year conservation cooperation agreement with China extending until 2035, have completed their quarantine period and will soon make their public debut.
Photos shared from the visit show Anwar and his delegation at the zoo entrance, riding the zoo train while waving to visitors, and viewing the panda enclosure where the adorable animals were seen resting and eating.
The visit also symbolises the continuing Malaysia-China diplomatic relations through ongoing “panda diplomacy”.
