PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA January 5, 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy visit from Song Hailiang, Chairman of China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC), and his delegation today, focusing on the progress and strategic importance of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.
The meeting emphasized CCCC’s alignment with Malaysia’s government policies under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13). Discussions covered the ongoing progress of the ECRL — where CCCC serves as the primary contractor for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning — as well as the need to complete the project on schedule while maximizing economic benefits for local industries and affected regions.
Anwar stressed the importance of detailed preparations for the ECRL’s operational phase, involving all stakeholders.
He described the ECRL as a transformative national initiative that transcends mere infrastructure, serving as a symbol of strong Malaysia-China friendship and cooperation. The project is expected to significantly enhance Malaysia’s role as a regional connectivity and logistics hub in Southeast Asia.
The ECRL, a flagship Belt and Road Initiative project in Malaysia, spans approximately 665 km, linking the east coast states with the western economic corridors and Port Klang. It aims to boost trade, tourism, and economic development in less-developed regions.
