MALAYSIA. GEORGE TOWN, 11 June 2025 – Pulau Tikus State Assemblyman and DAP Penang Publicity Secretary Joshua Woo Sze Zeng has criticised PAS for urging the Federal Government to cancel the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, calling the move an attempt to obstruct the state’s progress.

Responding to PAS National Committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marsuki’s statement, Woo highlighted that Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke announced on 10 June that LRT construction will commence within two months. MRT Corp has also begun recruiting engineers, signaling tangible progress.
“While Penang advances its public transportation and economic growth, PAS continues to derail our development,” Woo said, urging PAS to focus on uplifting their own states. He cited 2023 GDP per capita figures, noting Penang’s RM72,586 far surpasses PAS-governed states like Kelantan (RM16,836), Perlis (RM24,004), Kedah (RM26,353), and Terengganu (RM31,111).
Woo emphasized the Unity Government’s commitment to equitable development, pointing to initiatives like the “BAS.MY” public bus service launched in Alor Setar, Kedah, on 1 June, offering free rides for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students. He also noted the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project’s 82.45% completion as of April.
“We support development in PAS-led states because their people deserve modern infrastructure,” Woo said. “The Penang LRT will create jobs, retain talent, boost the economy, and ease traffic congestion.”
Woo called on PAS to address their constituents’ needs rather than obstructing Penang’s progress. “Let Penang move forward with the infrastructure its people deserve,” he concluded.
