Anwar Ibrahim Contacts Pakistani, Afghan Leaders: Urges Peaceful Resolution Amid Border Tensions

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA Oct 19, 2025 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim last night contacted Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Acting Prime Minister of Afghanistan Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund to voice deep concerns over the escalating tensions along the two countries’ border.

In a statement issued today, Anwar emphasized the importance of seeking a peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels and dialogue to prevent prolonged conflict that could bring suffering to the people and threaten regional security and stability.

“I emphasized the importance of seeking a peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels and dialogue to prevent prolonged conflict that would only bring suffering to the people and undermine the security and stability of this region,” he said.

Anwar also expressed profound condolences and sympathy over the floods that struck Pakistan and the earthquake that shook eastern Afghanistan recently, which have resulted in significant loss of life and property damage.

Malaysia, according to Anwar, will continue to stand firmly with Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as the international community, in channeling humanitarian aid, strengthening the spirit of Islamic brotherhood, and supporting all initiatives toward regional security and stability—including peace negotiations currently being facilitated by the Government of Qatar.

Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have intensified in recent weeks due to clashes between Pakistani forces and Taliban militants, affecting thousands of local residents and raising concerns about stability in South Asia.
