Malaysian Government Affirms Smooth Operation of Targeted Fuel Subsidy System in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU. SABAH, MALAYSIA Oct 16, 2025 – The Malaysian government has reaffirmed its commitment to the seamless rollout of the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) targeted subsidy system, with Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil conducting an on-site inspection at a Petronas station in Lintas Kepayan yesterday to evaluate its performance.

The visit focused on assessing the stability of internet connectivity, which serves as the backbone of the BUDI95 platform, while also collecting direct feedback from station operators and fuel users on their experiences with the system.

Under the initiative, eligible users benefit from RON95 petrol priced at RM1.99 per liter, capped at 300 liters per month. Those exceeding the limit or deemed ineligible will pay the current market rate of approximately RM2.60 per liter. Effective October 15, 2025, the program has been expanded to include full-time e-hailing drivers, granting them an additional subsidized purchase allowance to support their livelihoods.

Since its implementation, the BUDI95 system has demonstrated robust stability, capable of processing tens of thousands of transactions per minute. This efficiency underscores its role as a solid foundation for more precise, effective, and equitable subsidy delivery. The system’s smooth operation is bolstered by reliable and high-speed internet connections, ensuring swift eligibility checks and transaction verifications.

The Ministry of Communications, through its Community Communications Department (J-KOM), will continue to monitor the program’s execution. This includes disseminating clear and inclusive information to the public and driving ongoing improvements based on citizen feedback, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.

Accompanying the minister were Ministry Secretary General Dato’ Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and J-KOM Director General Dato’ Ismail bin Yusop.

The inspection highlights the government’s proactive approach to refining subsidy mechanisms amid economic pressures, aiming to balance fiscal responsibility with support for everyday Malaysians, particularly in regions like Sabah.
