Kuala Lumpur Aims for Smart, Inclusive, and Culturally Vibrant City, Says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Sept 18, 2025 – Digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) are not just visions of the future but a reality being shaped today, declared Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking on the development of smart cities guided by MADANI principles, he emphasized empowering citizens, expanding access to opportunities, and ensuring all Malaysians benefit from technological progress.

However, Anwar stressed that a truly smart city goes beyond technology. It must be an inclusive, sustainable, and culturally rich living space.

Quoting philosopher Ibnu Khaldun’s Muqaddimah, he described cities as the cornerstone of civilization, while referencing American novelist Mark Twain’s caution against cities becoming “barren concrete jungles devoid of culture.”

Anwar urged the development of technologically advanced cities that remain rooted in national identity, values, and heritage.

The push for a MADANI Smart City in Kuala Lumpur reflects Malaysia’s commitment to competing in global innovation and economy while upholding social justice, environmental sustainability, and national dignity, the Prime Minister added.
