KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) — A total of 88 open spaces in Kuala Lumpur have been gazetted within nine months, bringing the total number of open spaces with legal protection to 582 lots.

The Federal Territories Land and Mines Office (PPTGWP), in a statement today, said the latest gazettement involved 26 lots covering 7.33 hectares, bringing the total gazetted open space area to 476.17 hectares.
The additional 7.33 hectares is equivalent to about 10 football fields.
The gazettement provides clearer legal protection for the open spaces and helps ensure they are preserved for public benefit.
Apart from providing recreational areas for the community, open spaces also help absorb rainwater runoff and reduce the urban heat effect.

The 26 newly gazetted lots involve eight parliamentary constituencies, namely:
• Bandar Tun Razak: Six lots in Alam Damai, Taman Damai Jaya and Taman Connaught.
• Segambut: Five lots in Taman Segambut Indah, TTDI, Taman Sri Hartamas, Taman Sri Kuching and Taman Sri Bintang.
• Seputeh: Four lots in Taman LTAT, Taman Shanghai, Bandar Bukit Jalil and Taman Esplanad.
• Cheras: Four lots in Taman Midah, Taman Connaught and Taman Bukit Ria.
• Wangsa Maju: Two lots in Taman Desa Melawati and Taman Setapak.
• Lembah Pantai: Two lots in Bukit Persekutuan and Jalan Travers.
• Batu: Two lots in Taman Kok Lian.
• Setiawangsa: One lot in Taman Keramat AU 3.
PPTGWP said the public can now check the list, gazettement status and locations of all 582 open spaces through the MyHijau link on the official PPTGWP portal.
The information enables Kuala Lumpur residents and residents’ associations to check the status of open spaces in their neighbourhoods and play a role in monitoring and preserving them.
PPTGWP said gazettement ensures open spaces are protected, while transparent data allows the public to check their status.
