SEREMBAN, April 27, 2026 – In a major political twist, all 14 UMNO/Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblymen (ADUNs) in Negeri Sembilan have unanimously withdrawn their support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun of Pakatan Harapan (PH).
The announcement was made today by Negeri Sembilan UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias during a press conference held here. Jalaluddin, who also serves as the ADUN for Pertang, stated that the group had lost confidence in the Menteri Besar’s leadership and were formally pulling their backing for the state government under him.
Despite the withdrawal, the ADUNs stressed their commitment to a stable state government.
The move comes against the backdrop of a deepening royal and customary crisis (krisis adat) in Negeri Sembilan. Earlier this month, several Undang Luak (traditional territorial chiefs) issued declarations questioning the position of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and criticised Aminuddin Harun’s fitness to lead the administration. The Menteri Besar had previously rejected those declarations as invalid and not in line with state customs and the constitution.
The state legislative assembly (DUN) sitting, originally scheduled to resume today after an earlier postponement, has been closely watched amid the tensions. The PH-BN unity government in Negeri Sembilan now faces fresh uncertainty, with the withdrawal potentially impacting the government’s majority in the 36-seat assembly.
No immediate response from Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun or the state government has been issued at the time of writing. Further developments, including any possible no-confidence motion or calls for fresh state elections, are expected in the coming hours.
This latest development highlights the fragile balance within the unity government and the complex interplay between politics, traditional institutions, and the monarchy in Negeri Sembilan.
