KYIV, November 4, 2026 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that Ukraine, the United States and Russia were preparing to hold team-level trilateral talks in less than a week, after a lengthy call with US President Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
“We just had a very detailed, hour-and-a-half-long conversation with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. We are preparing for a trilateral format at the team level between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia – to take place in less than a week,” Mr Zelensky said in a post on X, ANI reported. BRICS News highlighted the remarks in a post on X, writing that Ukraine was preparing for talks with the US and Russia within a week.
Mr Witkoff announced on Monday that the US would bring delegations from Ukraine and Russia together in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. He said the talks would cover “post-war security agreements, de-escalation, humanitarian measures, and ending the war”, Reuters reported. Mr Witkoff and Mr Kushner are expected to represent the US, a senior US official told the news agency.
Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a new round of trilateral talks after meeting Mr Witkoff in St Petersburg about two weeks earlier, according to Reuters. The last US-mediated peace talks took place in February, before the outbreak of the war with Iran.
Mr Zelensky also pointed to a meeting in Brussels on Ukraine’s post-war recovery involving representatives of Ukraine, the US, the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, NATO, the World Bank and business, and said another meeting on security guarantees was due in Brussels on Friday. “The negotiations must move forward at full throttle to bring this war to an end as quickly as possible. Ukraine is ready to take the necessary steps. Our proposals are clear, and we have given them to the American side,” he said.
Air defence remains a priority for Kyiv. “We need interceptors for Patriot systems to protect lives from Russian attacks,” Mr Zelensky said, adding that bilateral work with Washington should continue under the proposed Drone Deal format. “Peace has no alternative, and postwar security guarantees must be truly cast-iron. We are working to make this happen!”
Mr Kushner said on X that the administration was working towards a lasting settlement. “At @POTUS direction, we are working hard with all parties to find a pathway to a durable peace,” he wrote. “Our focus is not only on ending this terrible war, but on the broader security architecture needed to ensure that when the fighting stops, it never starts again,” Fox News reported.
The diplomacy comes amid continued Russian strikes. On November 3, Mr Zelensky said at least 29 people had been killed in a massive overnight attack on critical infrastructure, in which Russian forces launched 289 attack drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles, mainly at energy facilities, ANI reported. Ukraine and Russia remain far apart on the terms of any peace deal, while Mr Trump has recently stepped up pressure on Kyiv to reach an agreement, according to Reuters.
