KUALA LUMPUR April 23, 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stressed the need for Malaysia to maintain a clear and neutral position amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict, warning that distant geopolitical tensions continue to affect the daily lives of Malaysians.
Zahid made the remarks after attending the 10th Barisan Nasional (BN) Forum held at Menara Dato’ Onn last night. The forum examined the economic and social repercussions of the US-Iran conflict on the country.
In a statement posted on X, Zahid said: “In today’s interconnected world, conflicts happening far from us still impact the daily lives of the people — from oil prices, transportation costs, to the prices of goods in the market.”
He expressed agreement with the panelists’ views that Malaysia must uphold a firm and balanced stance without excessive alignment to any side.
“Most importantly, we stress that conflicts like this should not happen because ultimately the people bear the burden, including in their daily lives,” he added.
Zahid emphasised that in an increasingly uncertain global environment, national strength must be anchored in stability, clear policies, and wise decision-making.
He thanked the panelists and organisers for providing a valuable platform for discourse, describing the forum as an important avenue to enhance public understanding of geopolitics and its implications for Malaysia’s economy and future.
The event is part of Barisan Nasional’s ongoing series of forums aimed at discussing pressing national and international issues.
