SHAH ALAM May 4, 2026 – Malaysian entertainment industry icon Jalil Hamid, also known as Abdul Jalil bin Abdul Hamid, has passed away at the age of 69. He breathed his last at his residence in Shah Alam, Selangor, around 12:30 PM today after a long battle with heart problems. He was found unresponsive in his sleep by family members.
The sad news was confirmed by his daughter, Afiqah Jalil, who shared the details with the media. Jalil is survived by his wife, Haryati Sariat (whom he married in 1984), and their six children. He will be laid to rest at Tanah Perkuburan Islam USJ 21, Subang Jaya, Selangor.
Jalil Hamid was a beloved multi-talented veteran who had been active in the local arts scene for more than 40 years since 1984. He made his mark as an actor, singer, comedian, director, producer, and emcee. Known for his unique style and distinctive talent, he gained popularity through hit songs such as Ayam, Makan, Mata, and Raya, as well as numerous film, drama, and telefilm roles that entertained generations of Malaysians.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil was among the first to pay tribute. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, the minister described Jalil as “another gem of the national arts industry” who will be greatly missed.
“Kita kehilangan sebutir lagi permata industri seni tanah air hari ini. Saudara Jalil Hamid merupakan seorang seniman yang tidak asing dalam dunia lakonan dan nyanyian sejak lebih empat dekad lalu. Beliau merupakan penghibur yang unik dengan gaya dan bakat tersendiri. Segala jasa, bakti dan sumbangannya akan sentiasa dikenang.
Takziah buat seluruh ahli keluarga, sahabat handai dan rakan-rakan seperjuangan Allahyarham. Semoga mereka diberi kekuatan dan kesabaran dalam menghadapi kehilangan ini. Sama-sama kita doakan agar rohnya dicucuri rahmat dan ditempatkan dalam kalangan orang beriman. Al-Fatihah.”
Jalil had been open about his health struggles in recent years, including heart complications that led to ICU treatment and significant weight loss. Despite these challenges, he remained active and continued receiving acting offers well into his late 60s.
The entertainment fraternity and fans have taken to social media to express their condolences and share memories of the late artiste’s contributions. Al-Fatihah.
