KUALA LUMPUR, April 22, 2026 – The United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) has recorded a strong surge in interest, with 8,861 applications for new membership received through its online registration portal in only three days.
Announcing the figures this evening, UMNO President and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed gratitude to all new applicants.
“8,861 people have applied to become new UMNO members in three days! Syukur Alhamdulillah,” Zahid wrote on X.
He extended a warm welcome to the new members, saying: “I would like to express my deepest thanks and welcome to everyone who has registered and chosen to join this struggle.”
Zahid highlighted the significant involvement of young people, noting that many youths have actively promoted the online registration drive.
“I am also very excited to see so many young people stepping forward to promote this online registration channel. Continue the effort to embrace even more people to join UMNO’s big family,” he added.

According to the official infographic released alongside the announcement (as of 6:00 pm today), the breakdown of new applications is as follows:
- Pemuda (Youth): 5,319 (60%)
- Ahli Biasa (Ordinary Members): 2,266 (26%)
- Wanita (Women): 700 (8%)
- Puteri (Young Women): 576 (6%)
The impressive turnout, especially among youths who make up 60% of the applicants, signals renewed momentum for the party ahead of future political engagements.
Zahid ended his message with the hashtag #UMNOMilikSemua, reinforcing UMNO’s message of inclusivity.
