BANGI, April 27, 2026 — UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has declined to disclose the party’s plan for the upcoming Melaka state election, describing the strategy as a “party secret”.
When asked by reporters whether UMNO would contest the polls on its own or in partnership with its unity government allies, Khaled refused to elaborate.
“That is a party secret,” he said firmly after officiating an event here today.
The remark comes amid growing speculation on how UMNO will approach the Melaka polls, which must be held by early 2027. The party has been holding internal discussions, including recent supreme council meetings, to finalise its position.
Khaled, who is also Defence Minister and MP for Kota Tinggi, did not provide further details on the matter.
His statement was shared on his official X account this morning, linking to a New Straits Times report on the same development.
Political observers note that UMNO’s decision will be closely watched, as it could influence the broader dynamics within the unity government ahead of the state polls.
