MICHIGAN April 25, 2026 – U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), a former national security official, posted a video update Saturday on the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which began as a 10-day pause on April 16 and was extended for three additional weeks.
In the roughly 50-second video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Slotkin told followers: “An update on the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.” She highlighted her recent direct engagement with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa and expressed strong support for converting the temporary truce into a durable, long-term security agreement that addresses the legitimate security concerns of both nations.
The ceasefire extension was announced earlier this week following high-level White House talks. President Donald Trump confirmed that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to the three-week extension to create space for negotiations aimed at a permanent resolution amid the 2026 Lebanon conflict.
Slotkin, who represents Michigan constituents with deep ties to both Israel and Lebanon, has emphasized the importance of U.S.-led diplomacy to reduce violence and prevent further escalation.
The initial 10-day pause, mediated with significant U.S. involvement, went into effect on April 16. The extension provides critical time for both sides to work toward a comprehensive deal that minimizes loss of life and stabilizes the region.
This development marks the latest chapter in ongoing U.S. efforts to broker peace in the Middle East following weeks of heightened hostilities involving Israel and Hezbollah militants.
Life News Agency will continue to monitor developments as negotiations progress.
