WASHINGTON D.C August 10, 2026 – U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday called for Iran to be held responsible for the “damages and death” inflicted on the people of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Gaza, expanding his demands amid ongoing negotiations with Tehran.
In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote: “Also, with respect to the Iran negotiations, Iran should be responsible for the damages and death caused to the people of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza!”
The statement came roughly an hour after Trump first demanded that Iran compensate American victims of attacks he attributes to Tehran, as well as families of Iranian protesters killed by the regime. He framed the counter-demand as a response to Iranian negotiators seeking reparations for destruction caused during the five-month military conflict that began earlier this year.
The conflict, which involved U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, has left negotiations focused on issues including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional stability. Trump’s latest comments link Iran to violence carried out by its allied groups across multiple Middle Eastern flashpoints.
It remains unclear how the new demands will affect the fragile talks. Iranian officials have previously rejected similar U.S. conditions, while Trump has described the current discussions as only “semi-negotiating.”
The remarks mark a further escalation in rhetorical pressure as both sides continue to exchange claims for compensation stemming from the recent fighting.
