LOS ANGELES, CA Dec 15, 2025 – In a tragedy that has sent shockwaves through Hollywood, acclaimed director and actor Rob Reiner, best known for helming classics like The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap, was found dead alongside his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, in their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon. The 78-year-old Reiner and his 68-year-old wife were victims of an apparent stabbing, with authorities treating the case as a double homicide.
Los Angeles Fire Department responders arrived at the upscale residence around 3:30 p.m. following a medical aid call, where they discovered the couple deceased from multiple stab wounds consistent with a knife attack. Sources close to the investigation revealed that the bodies were actually discovered earlier by the couple’s daughter, who alerted authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division has taken over the probe, and multiple outlets report that the Reiners’ adult son, Nick Reiner, is a person of interest and alleged perpetrator, though no formal charges have been announced as of Monday morning.
The couple, who married in 1989 after meeting on the set of Reiner’s film When Harry Met Sally…, leaves behind three children, including daughters Tracy and Annie. No motive has been publicly disclosed, but law enforcement sources described Nick as “troubled,” hinting at possible familial tensions.
A Storied Career Cut Short
Reiner’s death marks the end of an era for American comedy and drama. Born in 1947 in New York City to legendary comedian Carl Reiner and singer Estelle Reiner, Rob first gained fame as the liberal-leaning son “Meathead” on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family (1971–1978), earning two Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Archie Bunker’s son-in-law.
Later in his career, Reiner produced hits like The Wolf of Wall Street and directed episodes of prestige TV, while remaining a vocal activist on issues like gun control and democracy.
An outspoken liberal, Reiner’s recent X activity (formerly Twitter) focused on political commentary, but his legacy endures through timeless storytelling that captured the absurdities and joys of life.
Tributes Pour In: Hollywood Mourns a Giant
News of the Reiners’ deaths spread rapidly on social media, eliciting an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues, and fellow creators. “Rob Reiner directed some of my favorite movies growing up: ‘Stand By Me,’ ‘The Princess Bride’ & ‘Misery.’ What a tragedy. May he & Michele rest in peace,” tweeted one admirer, echoing sentiments across the platform.
Others paid homage to specific works: “‘When Harry Met Sally’ is legitimately the best rom com of all time. Will watch tonight in tribute. RIP to a man who made many many people very happy with his work,” wrote a user, capturing the widespread desire to honor Reiner’s contributions. A post calling him a “gentle giant of Hollywood” questioned the brutality of the attack: “Who would want to hurt him and Michele?”
Formal statements from Hollywood heavyweights were pending as of press time, but early reports indicate producers and actors from his films are preparing joint memorials. The Directors Guild of America issued a brief note: “Rob was a pioneer whose films redefined genres. Our hearts go out to his family during this unimaginable loss.”
The investigation continues, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. As details emerge, the focus remains on celebrating a life that brought laughter and reflection to generations. Rest in peace, Rob and Michele Reiner.
