SABAH. MALAYSIA December 16, 2025 – The Sabah State-Level Christmas Celebration 2025, which began yesterday at Padang Merdeka, has been hailed as a symbol of unity, harmony, and togetherness among Sabah’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious people.
Sabah’s Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Ewon Benedick, who is also the Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship, and Transportation, described the celebration as a reflection of the state government’s openness in supporting religious festivals. He emphasised that the Sabah State Government’s decision to elevate the celebration organised by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and the Sabah Council of Churches (SCC) to state level for the first time demonstrates this commitment.
Under the theme “Hope for Peace in Love”, Ewon urged Sabahans to continue fostering a spirit of togetherness, peace, and cooperation. “This theme reflects our identity as a society that upholds values of love, mutual respect, and appreciation for God’s creations,” he said during his speech at the opening ceremony officiated by the Sabah Head of State, Tun Musa Aman, last night.
As Chairman of the Main Committee for the state-level celebration, he called on all Sabahans to nurture unity, peace, and cooperation to ensure the state’s stability and economic progress, in line with the Sabah First vision. The open-concept celebration also provides opportunities for small entrepreneurs and local hawkers to generate income through the People’s Feast programme.
Ewon expressed appreciation to the SCC and DBKK as the main organisers of the four-day event from December 16 to 19, as well as various government agencies, industry partners, church communities, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved.
The celebration is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors and serve as a platform to strengthen harmony and goodwill among Sabahans. The closing ceremony will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on December 19.
