KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA December 16, 2025 – Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan has been appointed as the new Minister of Human Resources, marking a significant promotion in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s latest Cabinet reshuffle announced today.
In a statement shared on social media, Ramanan expressed profound gratitude to the Prime Minister for the trust placed in him. “I record my highest appreciation and thanks to YAB Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for the confidence given to me to shoulder the responsibility as Minister of Human Resources,” he said in Malay.
He described the appointment as a “great responsibility” to comprehensively strengthen the nation’s workforce development agenda, ensuring it is inclusive and competitive in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision.
Representing the Indian community, Ramanan also extended thanks in Tamil, saying “Nandri” (thank you) to Anwar for the honour and mandate. He pledged to carry out his duties with full dedication and commitment to meet the aspirations of Malaysians, including the Indian community, aligned with the Malaysia MADANI concept.
Ramanan, previously the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), thanked the ministry and its staff for their support over nearly two years, during which he focused on empowering the Indian community’s economic agenda.
He added that he plans to meet with the top leadership of the Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) soon after the oath-taking ceremony.
The reshuffle saw Ramanan replacing Steven Sim Chee Keong, who has been moved to head KUSKOP. Ramanan, the MP for Sungai Buloh and a PKR member, becomes the sole Indian community representative in the Cabinet.
This appointment is part of broader changes aimed at stabilising the administration and addressing key economic and workforce challenges as Malaysia prepares for future growth.
