PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA January 15, 2026 – The government will take stricter enforcement action against the misuse of social visit visas for illegal work and business activities in Malaysia, following complaints from local traders.
Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Steven Sim Chee Keong, in a media statement today, said the issue had been discussed at a recent Cabinet meeting.
Having raised the matter himself in response to complaints from local traders, he stated that the government has directed relevant agencies to strengthen monitoring and carry out swift enforcement action, including intensifying oversight of unauthorised work and business activities.
“I will work closely with the Minister of Home Affairs and relevant agencies to ensure follow-up actions are implemented immediately. This measure is crucial to protect PMKS and local small traders, as well as to maintain an orderly and competitive national entrepreneurship ecosystem,” said Steven Sim.
He emphasised that Malaysia welcomes tourists and investors to the country, but the nation’s laws and regulations must be complied with by all parties without exception.
The statement concluded with the rallying call, “Hebatkan Perniagaan Malaysia!”
