KUALA LUMPUR October 21, 2026 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have crippled an organised crime group known as “Geng Suria”, which is believed to be behind 20 armed gang robbery cases in Kedah, under a special operation codenamed “Op Sunset”.
All nine members of the group are scheduled to be charged at the Sessions Court in Sungai Petani, Kedah, on October 22, 2026, according to a media statement issued by PDRM’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director, Commissioner of Police Datuk M. Kumar S. Muthuvelu.
The statement said the operation was launched by the CID at Bukit Aman in collaboration with the Kedah Contingent CID, targeting an organised crime group actively committing serious offences to obtain material benefit, power or influence.
Op Sunset was carried out between September 24 and 27, 2026 in Kedah and Perak.
Nine Members, Aged 28 to 52
According to PDRM, Geng Suria has nine members aged between 28 and 52 and is led by a 30-year-old local man.
The group had been active since early 2024 and was identified as being involved in 20 property and violent crime cases, namely armed gang robbery causing injury, in Kedah.
Police arrested six suspects aged between 28 and 39 during the operation. All of them are being held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) until October 25, 2026.
The remaining three members of the group are currently serving time at Sungai Buloh Prison, Pokok Sena Prison and Sungai Petani Prison for other criminal offences, the statement said.
Background checks found that several of those arrested had previous records for offences including vehicle theft, housebreaking, drugs, and gang robbery causing grievous hurt with sharp weapons.
Police also seized six mobile phones of various brands and 189 ecstasy pills weighing about 101.12 grams. An investigation has been opened under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Modus Operandi
PDRM said the group targeted the homes of foreign nationals, business premises and residences that had been identified in advance by the gang leader.
“During the robberies, members of the group used dangerous weapons such as knives and machetes and did not hesitate to injure victims in order to carry out their criminal activities,” the statement said.
It added that the group’s aggressive and violent actions had caused fear and trauma among victims, with several of them suffering serious injuries in the attacks.
Valuables obtained from the robberies were sold for cash, and the proceeds were distributed by the leader to each member according to their respective roles and involvement, police said.
Based on police reports received since 2024, Geng Suria’s activities have caused losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of ringgit, besides creating fear and threatening the safety of victims.
Charges Under Penal Code
The investigation papers have been referred to the Serious Crimes Unit of the Attorney General’s Chambers, which has agreed to charge the members of the organised crime group under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code.
The section covers the offence of being a member of an organised criminal group and carries a jail term of not less than five years and not more than 20 years upon conviction.
“PDRM is committed to taking continuous action against any individual or group involved in organised criminal activities to ensure the peace and well-being of Malaysian society are always safeguarded,” the statement said.
PDRM also urged the public to consistently cooperate by channelling information to help the authorities curb criminal activities from spreading further.
