SEMERAH, July 6 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim called on residents of Semerah to back Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the N.17 Semerah state seat, Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar, so he can effectively champion local aspirations and welfare in the Johor State Legislative Assembly.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who accompanied the Prime Minister at the Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) Kenduri Rakyat programme yesterday (July 5), shared highlights of the event on social media.
In his remarks, Anwar urged the people of Semerah to give their support to Khuzzan, describing him as someone capable of being a strong voice for the community.
Fahmi added that Semerah needs a representative who is hardworking, understands the people’s needs, and consistently engages directly with the ground.
The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for AIM’s ongoing efforts in assisting Malaysians, particularly women, to generate income and improve their living standards through microfinancing.
“When women are given appropriate space, opportunities, and support, the impact goes beyond transforming their own lives — it strengthens families and shapes more prosperous communities,” Fahmi noted, echoing the sentiment from the event.
The programme forms part of the government’s continued focus on grassroots welfare initiatives ahead of the 16th Johor State Election, scheduled for July 11.
Anwar has repeatedly stressed that support for programmes like AIM is not limited to election periods but reflects a long-term commitment to helping underserved groups, especially in rural areas.
The event in Semerah (Villa Kemboja, Batu Pahat area) underscored AIM’s role as one of the world’s leading microfinance initiatives, with borrower-friendly terms aimed at lifting communities economically.
Fahmi posted photos and a video from the gathering, tagging the campaign hashtag #JohorKeDepanUndiHarapan.
The Johor polls will see 56 state seats contested, with early voting on July 7.
