PUTRAJAYA, 11 October 2026 – The Ministry of Communications will strengthen telecommunications infrastructure, government information delivery, and the nation’s creative industry through Budget 2027, themed “Menggapai di Langit, Mengakar di Bumi” (“Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Earth”), which was tabled by Prime Minister and Finance Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim on 9 October.
For 2027, the government through the Ministry of Communications has allocated RM142 million to expand the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) and more than RM130 million to support the film, music, and local creative content sectors.
The creative industry allocation covers incentives for local and international film and animation productions shooting in Malaysia, including additional incentives for works that showcase Malaysian culture and national identity. The government will also fully exempt entertainment duty on tickets for local films and theatre performances in the Federal Territories starting in 2027, while aiming to develop 20 new intellectual properties and commercialise Malaysian characters on the global stage.
Meanwhile, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the government continues efforts to expand telecommunications infrastructure and cybersecurity through several strategic initiatives.
These include a RM5 billion investment to strengthen national internet connectivity under the National Digital Network (JENDELA) project, covering 4G coverage in all Orang Asli villages, internet access along 7,000 km of roads and 1,700 km of railway tracks, as well as the implementation of the MADANI Undersea Cable (SALAM).
MCMC has also been allocated RM1 billion for the implementation of the Electronic Medical Record System project at healthcare facilities nationwide, and will run an Internet Safety Campaign in all schools focused on addressing cyberbullying and child exploitation.
The Ministry of Communications is confident that Budget 2027 will further improve communications connectivity, digital literacy, and the production of high-quality creative industry output.
