KUALA LUMPUR June 29, 2026 The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has successfully arrested 331 suspects and seized cash together with betting stakes totalling more than RM2.77 million in Operation SOGA XI, an ongoing nationwide operation aimed at eradicating unlicensed sports betting and online gambling activities expected to surge ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Criminal Investigation Department Director, CP Datuk M. Kumar a/l S. Muthuvelu, said in a media statement today that the integrated operation, launched from 11 June 2026 to 19 July 2026, has so far conducted 293 raids across the country.
“A total of 331 suspects were detained, comprising 312 men and 19 women. Of the total, 234 are local citizens while 97 are foreigners,” he said.
He added that police also seized cash amounting to RM145,005.09 and betting stakes worth RM2,625,529.46.
In addition, 185 websites, platforms, applications and social media accounts used for football betting activities and the promotion of gambling were identified. Blocking actions and content takedowns will be carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM).
All suspects have been brought to the respective police district headquarters for further documentation and investigation under various provisions of the law, including:
- Sections 6(1), 6(3), 4(1)(c) and 4(1)(e) of the Gambling Act 1953
- Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (for foreign nationals)
Investigations are also being conducted under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).
Datuk Kumar emphasised that PDRM will continue to intensify operations and enforcement actions on an ongoing basis while strengthening strategic cooperation with relevant agencies.
“The public is urged to channel any information to assist the authorities in combating these activities,” he said.
