KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 27 June 2025 – The defense of Sungai Buloh PAS chief Ustaz Zaharudin Muhammad’s racially charged remarks by PAS Central Committee member Dr Zuhdi Marzuki reveals the party’s lack of appreciation for non-Malay contributions to Malaysia, said DAP National Vice-Chairman Syahredzan Johan.
Yesterday, Dr Zuhdi deflected blame onto the Democratic Action Party (DAP), accusing it of “creating controversy” and “exploiting sensitivities” over Ustaz Zaharudin’s statement questioning the promotion of Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng, a Chinese Malaysian Lieutenant General in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). Syahredzan, the Bangi MP, dismissed the accusation as “baseless” and an attempt to cover up PAS’s own misstep.

“All statements from DAP leaders, including myself, condemned Ustaz Zaharudin for stoking racial polemics over Datuk Johnny’s promotion,” Syahredzan said. “Our remarks defended the integrity of the ATM and the merit of a Malaysian honored for his service.”
By downplaying Ustaz Zaharudin’s actions, Dr Zuhdi exposed PAS’s true stance, Syahredzan argued, accusing the party of undervaluing the sacrifices of non-Malays. The core issue, he stressed, is a PAS leader injecting racial division into the recognition of a distinguished ATM officer.
Syahredzan reminded PAS that non-Malays, alongside Malays, have shed “blood, sweat, and tears” for the nation. “The rights and position of non-Malays are enshrined in the Federal Constitution, and PAS has no authority to question this,” he said.
Urging PAS to abandon divisive and hateful politics, Syahredzan called for unity: “Enough with outdated tactics. Accept that Malaysia is our shared homeland.”
