PAS Hypocrisy Exposed: Demands Anwar’s Resignation While Ignoring Own Leaders’ Legal Woes

MALAYSIA, KUALA LUMPUR, 13 June 2025 – Amanah Secretary-General Faiz Fadzil has slammed PAS for its “hypocritical” demand that Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim resign following the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s ruling in the Yusoff Rawther case. Faiz accused PAS, including its Deputy President YB Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, of double standards, noting the party’s failure to call for the resignation of its own leaders when they faced investigations and charges.

Faiz argued that PAS’s justification—ensuring police integrity in investigating Anwar—lacks credibility. “When PAS leaders were investigated and charged for insulting the Sultan under the Sedition Act, PAS did not demand their resignation to uphold the integrity of royal institutions,” he said, highlighting the inconsistency.

The PAS campaign, Faiz claimed, is a deliberate attempt to tarnish Anwar’s reputation as Prime Minister. He pointed to the High Court’s decision as evidence of Anwar’s non-interference in the judiciary, reflecting the integrity and reform agenda championed by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“This ruling proves the independence of the judiciary under Anwar’s leadership,” Faiz said.

Addressing PAS leaders’ threats to sue the police for allegedly failing to investigate Anwar, Faiz dismissed the claims as baseless. He cited Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain’s statement that initial investigations were conducted.

“To sue the police, there must be evidence of malicious intent. No proof exists of Anwar’s interference, so where is the malice?” Faiz questioned.

Quoting the landmark case PP v Mohamed Ali (1962), Faiz emphasized that police investigations are based on relevant evidence, not external motives. He accused PAS of politicizing the court’s decision out of desperation, calling it hypocritical given the party’s failure to uphold justice in cases involving its own leaders.

“Justice must not only be done but seen to be done,” Faiz stressed.

The statement has sparked renewed debate over PAS’s motives, with critics accusing the party of exploiting legal processes for political gain while ignoring its own accountability.
