SEREMBAN, April 27, 2026 – The stability of Negeri Sembilan’s unity government is under threat after all 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen from UMNO withdrew their support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-PKR) today, citing his alleged interference in an ongoing royal dispute involving the state’s traditional chieftains.
The move leaves Aminuddin Harun, a vice-president of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), with the backing of only 17 out of 36 state assembly members, effectively stripping him of his majority in the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN).
In a strongly worded statement on X (formerly Twitter) this afternoon, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin (PKR) urged BN Negeri Sembilan to honour the post-GE15 unity government pact forged to ensure political stability.
“After PRU15, no single political coalition held a majority. That is why the Unity Government (at both federal and state levels) was formed. Why? For political stability,” Sim wrote.
“The unity government agreement is to establish a stable administration until the end of the term. We hope BN Negeri Sembilan will respect this agreement until the end of the term. Stability and the welfare of the people must be prioritised.”
The development comes amid escalating tensions in the state linked to a constitutional row where four Undangs (traditional chiefs) and the Tunku Besar Tampin have reportedly attempted to depose Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Aminuddin Harun has publicly stated that the state government does not recognise the declaration, further straining relations with UMNO leaders who claim the Menteri Besar has overstepped his role.
The unity government formula — a cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN — was established following the hung parliament after the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022 to prevent political instability at both federal and state levels.
Political observers warn that the withdrawal could trigger a domino effect on the federal unity government, which relies heavily on BN/UMNO support to maintain its supermajority in Parliament.
As of press time, there has been no official response from UMNO Negeri Sembilan or the Menteri Besar’s office regarding Sim’s call or the next steps for the state administration.
The DUN is scheduled to continue its proceedings, but the political temperature in Seremban remains high with public groups expressing loyalty to both the Ruler and the Menteri Besar in recent days.
