MCMC Records Statements from Three Individuals Over False, Racially Charged Social Media Posts

CYBERJAYA, Sept 4, 2025 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded statements from three individuals linked to false and racially charged posts on Facebook and TikTok. The posts falsely claimed a Chinese woman climbed onto the main stage during Perak’s National Day celebration in Ipoh, potentially stirring racial tensions and negative public perceptions.

The statements were taken on Wednesday, September 3, at Kuala Nerang Police Station in Kedah, Beserah Police Station in Kuantan, and the Northeast District Police Headquarters in Penang. Authorities seized three mobile phones, three SIM cards, and one memory card for digital forensic analysis.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years in prison, or both upon conviction.

MCMC urged the public to verify information before posting or sharing content on social media to avoid spreading misinformation.
