CYBERJAYA, MALAYSIA January 22, 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today recorded statements from the Chief Editor and Online Editor of China Press regarding content posted on the newspaper’s official social media account, which is believed to have violated Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The investigation was launched following public complaints about the content, which allegedly contained false information related to the Royal Address delivered by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, during the Opening Ceremony of the Parliament Session—specifically concerning the status of the Malay language as the national language—and had the potential to cause public confusion.
Preliminary findings showed that the content conveyed a meaning different from the actual Royal Address of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, which could lead to inaccurate perceptions of the Royal Institution and national interests.
Several devices and related materials were also seized to assist in further investigation.
MCMC stressed that it views seriously any publication involving the Royal Address of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or matters related to the Malay language as the national language. The commission reminded all media organisations to conduct thorough fact-checking and uphold the principles of responsible journalism.
The recording of statements took place at MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya.
