MALAYSIA. PUTRAJAYA, June 16, 2025 – The first 2025 meeting of the Cabinet Committee on National Food Security Policy, chaired by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, focused on strategies to boost the nation’s self-sufficiency rate (SSR) for meat.

A roundtable discussion reviewed programs aimed at ensuring the livestock sector remains sustainable, resilient, and competitive in the long term, securing Malaysia’s food security for future generations.
The meeting approved the integration of the Malaysian Food Composition Database (MyFCD) into the National Food Security Policy. This move is seen as a critical step to promote public awareness of healthy eating habits, fostering a healthier and more productive society.
To reduce reliance on imported maize, a key commodity in the livestock sector, the committee agreed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) will develop effective strategies to grow the local maize industry.
This approach is expected to stimulate the agro-food sector, create economic opportunities in rural areas, and strengthen the resilience of Malaysia’s food system.
