KUALA LUMPUR Aug 29, 2026 – Malaysia Airlines is urging Malaysians to use the three-day Merdeka long weekend to explore more of their own country, highlighting cultural crafts, heritage sites, and island escapes in a new social media campaign posted Saturday.
The national carrier shared images and a short video featuring four destinations: Terengganu for batik-making and songket weaving, Kota Kinabalu for snorkeling and sunsets at Tunku Abdul Rahman Park and Tanjung Aru, Penang for Clan Jetties, George Town street art and Penang Hill, and Kuching for the Sarawak Cultural Village and waterfront.
“A long weekend is all the reason you need to see a little more of home,” the airline wrote, adding that travellers can discover heritage streets, local artistry, traditions, and island sunsets. The post uses the hashtag #TimeForMalaysia, part of the airline’s ongoing “Time for…” campaign series.
Merdeka Day falls on Monday, 31 August 2026, creating a natural long weekend from Saturday 29 August. The promotion comes as airlines and tourism operators push domestic travel during the holiday period.
Travellers can book flights through the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app. The airline also noted separate operational adjustments at KLIA due to National Day flypast rehearsals, advising passengers to check flight status and arrive early.
